I have been debating all day about what to make. </p> <p> </p> <p>I have decided to go with <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/p-4465-misses-jackets.aspx" target="_blank">Simplicity 2446</a>. I know it doesn't look very summery but year after year I look for light summer blazers and never find any. I have a few modifications in mind to make it more summery (colour, material, 3/4 length gathered arms, different collar) so in theory it will be lovely, light and summery. </p> <p> </p> <p>I have some black (I know I know stupid colour but I cant help it) cotton sheeting for the muslin as this will be my first jacket attempted so I am anticipating many muslins so I went for the cheapest material to hack into <img style="border-bottom-style: none; border-left-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-right-style: none" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-winkingsmile" alt="Winking smile" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Brdw96q7QAU/T9EhfkrpqtI/AAAAAAAAAgU/Bd-i87hCKdI/wlEmoticon-winkingsmile%25255B2%25255D.png?imgmax=800">. I am off now to find my pattern and work out what size to trace. Happy days. xx</p> <div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/1995114579288287370-4596884986619887292?l=ladyrazzor.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Yvette Friendshiphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07739673651236246887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1995114579288287370.post-24112345256145549542012-06-07T01:08:00.000+01:002012-06-07T01:10:59.100+01:002012-06-07T01:10:59.100+01:00Jubilee Joy<p>I know this post is a bit late but here is the dress I made for Louise to wear over the Jubilee holiday. How’d that one work out!Well I seem to have so little time to blog, tweet and facebook at the moment yet I don’t seem to be getting a whole load of stuff done if that makes sense! Although I have been making the most of the weather whilst its been sunny but the good old UK as usual has given into rain this weekend. <br />
<br />
I had some left over material from my <a href="http://ladyrazzor.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/yay-yay-yay-jersey-dress-finished.html" target="_blank">Simplicity 2883</a> dress that was purchased at <a href="http://www.lilifabrics.co.uk/" target="_blank">Lili Fabric's</a> & thought well the sun is due and apart from my <a href="http://ladyrazzor.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/has-weekend-gone-already.html" target="_blank">Colette Meringue</a> I actually have no skirts but I also have no skirt patterns so I thought it cant be that hard to make a skirt with no pattern can it??….. Did I mention I’m really not keen on working with this material! <br />
<br />
Anyway….I sat there with the lump of material I had and started to pleat it hand basting as well as pinning it as I went. I then remembered the material is lovely and stretchy but once sewn and be tricky to manoeuvre (but this is probably but my lack of experience talking). I decided rather than winding myself up and spending hours researching the net to just bang in a zip and button on the already pre planned elastic waistband (big smiles when I thought of this as I am yet to make any type of waistband lol).<br />
<br />
Here is what I ended up with.<br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-ZiCi74IjD70/T8tO0T33hSI/AAAAAAAAAeE/9nja3dvx9cI/s1600-h/IMG_0633a%25255B15%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_0633a" border="0" height="162" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-T4Xu2aSziKE/T8tO2Ue6kYI/AAAAAAAAAeM/IsgiuW2XjSs/IMG_0633a_thumb%25255B12%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_0633a" width="246" /></a> <a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-l-j0V6m9TvA/T8tO6KFBbtI/AAAAAAAAAeU/q7K7sE0zwek/s1600-h/IMG_0634a%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_0634a" border="0" height="166" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-upJVndyGlxs/T8tO6-otUqI/AAAAAAAAAec/t-U_hfaMrUQ/IMG_0634a_thumb%25255B4%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_0634a" width="246" /></a> <a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-eRj0p7Voh0Y/T8tO8FG3XSI/AAAAAAAAAek/g9aHckD_928/s1600-h/IMG_0627a%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_0627a" border="0" height="166" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-EN9B0zbV3so/T8tO8jiXooI/AAAAAAAAAes/AkVX1o-6GHM/IMG_0627a_thumb%25255B4%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_0627a" width="246" /></a><br />
The pleats came out all the same size. I was happy with the elastic waist & I even put in an invisible zip and button.<br />
<br />
I wore it for my mums birthday visit but it made me feel a bit old and frumpy (still trying to find “my” style):<br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-gW-VqgFYrJw/T8tO9aDiahI/AAAAAAAAAe0/8VB1bo2blwo/s1600-h/IMG_0600%25255B8%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_0600" border="0" height="486" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-N7iU1Imr568/T8tO9_biuEI/AAAAAAAAAe8/zC1me2V633g/IMG_0600_thumb%25255B5%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_0600" width="251" /></a><br />
<br />
So I decided despite being constantly told wear waist clinchers, hide your hips, cover your upper arms and so on and so forth…… to do this (please excuse the blurred photo I really need to get a wireless remote all this running backwards and forward on self timer is not doing it for me or my pictures lol)!<br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-Qc_FWYt1d1Y/T8tO-pjsiaI/AAAAAAAAAfE/r6KNqTdsQgA/s1600-h/IMG_0609%25255B13%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_0609" border="0" height="486" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-dB-idm5ysak/T8tO_Ie5o8I/AAAAAAAAAfM/xslrrd0rSa8/IMG_0609_thumb%25255B8%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_0609" width="259" /></a><br />
<br />
From the side empire line clothes tend to have the “is she pregnant or just a bit overweight” effect on me but straight on I find them quite flattering and I think this style of dress (if it was a dress lol) is “in” at the moment. I can change up the top using different colours and styles and pair with belts worn under the bust (sounds silly I know but I’ve done it twice and it looked surprisingly good)!<br />
<br />
I have already worn this out a few time and got a couple of compliments so I am more than pleased.<br />

My machine has a 3 step button hole setting but the sides come out different so I had to redo one side on a smaller stich size to make them look the same. Second time round I got better but not paying attention too my measuring I made the top ones bigger (whoops). The gathering was nice and simple, used 2 basting stiches and pulled. I was also very impressed with the neatness of the neck and arm lines when lining is used.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-A1FgzE-I0ck/T71eV1jZiSI/AAAAAAAAAc0/QbppCl-15AQ/s1600-h/IMG_0545%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_0545" border="0" alt="IMG_0545" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-Y6b-6ETMHfQ/T71eWXQBeaI/AAAAAAAAAc4/khPa8vG_tI4/IMG_0545_thumb%25255B4%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="246" height="166"></a> <a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-Kj3e8Gz6ScE/T71eYEbSlII/AAAAAAAAAdE/Y2LhT_sTBfM/s1600-h/IMG_0547%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_0547" border="0" alt="IMG_0547" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-Wbm3xBDbNL8/T71eYl-wJLI/AAAAAAAAAdI/D89f63pWGUY/IMG_0547_thumb%25255B4%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="246" height="166"></a> <a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-ghLmDmqsD8I/T71eZ_-2eQI/AAAAAAAAAdU/jHl7ch14gJo/s1600-h/IMG_0555%25255B9%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_0555" border="0" alt="IMG_0555" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-48djbuWIUdY/T71ealfcrjI/AAAAAAAAAdY/c0ma_9kgXOE/IMG_0555_thumb%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="246" height="197"></a></p> <p>All straight seams were French seams I am so impressed as its the first time I have done “real” ones :) I also used a long strip of fabric as bias type binding to hide the join at the waistband and stop it irritating Louise's skin. I had to use a pattern specifically for knits/jerseys as I have never sewn with it before and was unsure. I did run into a few problems but needless to say it turned out ok in the end. </p> <p>I used <a href="http://sewing.patternreview.com/patterns/19017" target="_blank">Project Runway 2883</a> and after reading the reviews and doing a bit of research I decided to modify the pattern by adding 2.5 inches to the bodice and shortening the skirt so the gathering was on my waist not under my bust (it really would have looked like a maternity dress on me).</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-w1C9_FEUc98/T6wxoMY7O-I/AAAAAAAAAXg/v5egDe8Msds/s1600-h/IMG_0187%25255B22%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_0187" border="0" alt="IMG_0187" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-D5j64GEsKbY/T6wxqawHZhI/AAAAAAAAAXo/XRkpw2X_Uaw/IMG_0187_thumb%25255B16%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="170" height="246"></a> I paid less than £1.60 for this little beauty on eBay!</p> <p>My biggest problem was gathering the fabric. I don't have a gathering foot yet so I done it using two lines of long stitching. This part was fine but trying to stitch the gathers in place was near on impossible for me and bloody well frustrating. I ended up going round the skirt/bodice join and tried to manually gather as i stitched which got most of the gathering secured. Then I tried the dress on and realised that the stitching would not hold with the stretch of the fabric…I wanted to cry by this point! </p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-aaxrc0nCPv0/T6wxr8Vx7ZI/AAAAAAAAAXw/ChcU1Jxd5vU/s1600-h/IMG_0177%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_0177" border="0" alt="IMG_0177" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Z2YCpRq7C6M/T6wxtakbJhI/AAAAAAAAAX4/qGgpuw5TRSs/IMG_0177_thumb%25255B5%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="246" height="166"></a> so I decided to use elastic….</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-oQGS39EYUv0/T6wxunbSEmI/AAAAAAAAAYA/QiTxph43N6U/s1600-h/IMG_0179%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_0179" border="0" alt="IMG_0179" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-7s7YnEG5sok/T6wxv7WTr9I/AAAAAAAAAYI/6NtwTa13E4c/IMG_0179_thumb%25255B4%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="246" height="166"></a> </p> <p>I dont know what made me think of it but I thought it would be more secure, give the waist line more definition and help with the gathering issue. This was a first for me despite I having brought all issues of <a href="http://www.burdastyle.com/">Burda Style</a> since January I have yet to use the patterns. This is top 425 from the Burda Plus magazine, Spring/Summer 2012. </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-ut9P36kdpaY/T6rND1tZOwI/AAAAAAAAATw/Fm4StLLoR2Y/s1600-h/DPP_0004%25255B12%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="DPP_0004" border="0" alt="DPP_0004" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-WM2OK7iytQE/T6rNEv-HZdI/AAAAAAAAAT4/0E-QcWzzScw/DPP_0004_thumb%25255B9%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="326" height="486"></a> <a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-IDahU7nEpPI/T6rNGE-5r_I/AAAAAAAAAUA/-pi6eRVjPgw/s1600-h/DPP_0006%25255B9%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="DPP_0006" border="0" alt="DPP_0006" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/--X2bIumTSR4/T6rNG93DCWI/AAAAAAAAAUE/uXWh8DJqQ_0/DPP_0006_thumb%25255B6%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="246" height="166"></a> </p> <p>I love the fact its asymmetric with different length sleeves and the collar is unusual. The only thing I am upset with is that the fabric I used (a fantastic silky feel bi-stretch from <a href="http://www.allinlondon.co.uk/directory/1126/122176.php" target="_blank">Ashley Brook Fabrics</a>) did not drape as well as I expected. Next time I will use a much thinner and a better draping fabric. My bad. </p> <p>The biggest thing that scares me about the Burda patterns that come with the magazines is purely this: </p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-_CZY34dFuHo/T6rNIN859-I/AAAAAAAAAUQ/CXu4vhWFFvE/s1600-h/IMG_0025%25255B9%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_0025" border="0" alt="IMG_0025" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-IOx4emCK_zQ/T6rNJfVXJyI/AAAAAAAAAUY/Xmv6rAChOwY/IMG_0025_thumb%25255B6%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="646" height="433"></a> <a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-sqAs_s81BPo/T6rNKQRNk_I/AAAAAAAAAUg/MUPU_pjCpEA/s1600-h/DPP_0040%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="DPP_0040" border="0" alt="DPP_0040" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-E1pXmBTc63k/T6rNLlVEW_I/AAAAAAAAAUo/BBzgQVlqVS0/DPP_0040_thumb%25255B4%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="166" height="246"></a> <a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-SVa7TTtkBII/T6rNMuxDsvI/AAAAAAAAAUw/FDLmeabHPCY/s1600-h/DPP_0048%25255B9%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="DPP_0048" border="0" alt="DPP_0048" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Kp0Who1Q6wE/T6rNNWp5-gI/AAAAAAAAAU0/v67s-agsv5U/DPP_0048_thumb%25255B6%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="246" height="166"></a></p> <p>It is the reason I am yet to use any of their patterns. It was hard but I managed to fins all the lines and pieces, I will admit there were a few minor errors but hey-ho. I did make a quick muslin just to check the sizing and to see if it suited me.</p> <p>What I am most please with is the fact I was so very good on this project and made sure I finished off all the seams. I don’t have a over-locker and I really did want to try French seams (but thought I should leave that to a pattern I am more confident with) so I finished all the seams as I went with fake French seams:</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-_BEqK60iRe4/T6rNO1sUo-I/AAAAAAAAAVA/N5TwP1wgKOE/s1600-h/DPP_0002%25255B8%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="DPP_0002" border="0" alt="DPP_0002" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-qINBpwApXYU/T6rNP8INtCI/AAAAAAAAAVI/0kWUERwHgPU/DPP_0002_thumb%25255B5%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="646" height="433"></a> <a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-x5VW_-adQcA/T6rNRS9fFmI/AAAAAAAAAVQ/Lt6yOMumE9I/s1600-h/DPP_0003%25255B13%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="DPP_0003" border="0" alt="DPP_0003" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-LqCX0gk61S0/T6rNSGpCscI/AAAAAAAAAVY/FDmpid9sMP8/DPP_0003_thumb%25255B7%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="246" height="166"></a></p> <p>I have to admit I am pleased with how my techniques are coming along and how much more professional this garment looks compared to my last. I cant wait to get started on my next project.</p> <p>This is also the first time I have used <a href="http://www.windowslive.co.uk/essentials/writer" target="_blank">Live Writer</a> to compose my blog and am finding it very good and easy to use especially with the layout of pictures.</p> <div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/1995114579288287370-6161174757290718867?l=ladyrazzor.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Yvette Friendshiphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07739673651236246887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1995114579288287370.post-63504662176939465172012-04-10T21:29:00.000+01:002012-04-10T21:32:36.952+01:002012-04-10T21:32:36.952+01:00She loves it. Now she cant wait for the others!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You will have to excuse my daughter. Although she was a willing model she would not stretch to having her hair brushed!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She is very impressed with the muslin and is now getting impatient to wait for her others to be done in the fabric she picked!</div>

It seems louise has a smaller back like me, I am not sure if I will use buttons as this slips on and off her fairly easily. I may be lazy and sew a center back seam instead (fear of button holes......I know!!)????</div>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zlDdw3D_CjQ/T4IT2Lo6wcI/AAAAAAAAASU/pp_3rFblE3E/s1600/IMG_9981.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zlDdw3D_CjQ/T4IT2Lo6wcI/AAAAAAAAASU/pp_3rFblE3E/s1600/IMG_9981.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zlDdw3D_CjQ/T4IT2Lo6wcI/AAAAAAAAASU/pp_3rFblE3E/s320/IMG_9981.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I got this great New Look <a href="http://sewing.patternreview.com/Patterns/52536" target="_blank">pattern</a> from <a href="http://www.romfordshoppinghall.com/our-shops/item/ashley-brookes-interiors" target="_blank">Ashley Brook Fabrics</a> during their pattern sale thinking it look nice and quick!! :)<br />
<br />
I must stop reading the pattens before I cut the material as I nearly had a heart attack and didn't have a clue what some of the instructions were saying and started to panic! Time for a muslin!!!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U3WsoSMSTeM/T4IT32yB2_I/AAAAAAAAASc/zA3zs4bzIU4/s1600/IMG_9978.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U3WsoSMSTeM/T4IT32yB2_I/AAAAAAAAASc/zA3zs4bzIU4/s320/IMG_9978.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I cut the pattern in a 4 as Louise is quiet small for her age but I know it will still be way too long for her! The style I went for had 5 pieces so was nice and easy to cut.<br />
<br />
Once I got sewing the guide made sense and the process moved along quite quickly. I was very impressed. Gathering took a long time...Note to self to invest in a gathering foot.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F3k6Hpw2vXQ/T4IT520PYXI/AAAAAAAAASk/N-zOnNVbADk/s1600/IMG_9986.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F3k6Hpw2vXQ/T4IT520PYXI/AAAAAAAAASk/N-zOnNVbADk/s320/IMG_9986.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
Here is the finished muslin, I basically used an old sheet. I used contrasting cotton to see where I made mistakes and it worked a treat as there are a few things I need to make sure I don't do on the final dress.<br />
<br />
The gathering turned out well which I was pleased with. I must remember to snip the inside of the seams on the bodice, I did remember to grade them though!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GAG5dT0XuXw/T4IT7ZSDThI/AAAAAAAAASs/jPs7FyZuIt4/s1600/IMG_9988.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GAG5dT0XuXw/T4IT7ZSDThI/AAAAAAAAASs/jPs7FyZuIt4/s320/IMG_9988.JPG" width="212" /></a></div>
The back was a bit tricky as I have never done this type before, but in all fairness I let the thinking confuse me and should have just followed the guide without trying to work it out before hand! All I need to do is the button holes (I am so dreading that).<br />
<br />
I must say I am looking forward to Louise trying it on in the morning :)<br />

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-biRcVkOIAgk/T34vLvzlJNI/AAAAAAAAARs/odhr0pGTyVY/s1600/IMG_9968.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-biRcVkOIAgk/T34vLvzlJNI/AAAAAAAAARs/odhr0pGTyVY/s320/IMG_9968.JPG" width="204" /></a></div>
Well this is the final finished top and boy did I have some issues fitting it! I must have either the weirdest body shape or I am still thinking that all patterns should fit first time!!!! I am still not 100% happy but refuse to sew a dart of 4-6mm to reduce the tiny gaping at the armhole which I am sure is made worse why the bias tape (shop brought and quite stiff).<br />
<br />
I ended up cutting a 10 shoulder, 12 bust and 14 hips but there was a tiny bit too much strain across the bust. Being lazy and not wanting to do a FBA as I have never done one before, I unstitched the pleat and repined to fit my bust with minimal gapage.<br />
<br />
I altered the pattern and cut my fabric (from <a href="http://www.192.com/atoz/business/romford-rm1/fabric-retailers/ashley-brook-fabrics/a87645a0f90b577bccdab1dc2354f6a0701702c8/ldc/" target="_blank">Ashley Brook Fabrics</a>). It turned out well. Or so I thought. I decided to wear this for my birthday and as the day wore on so did the obvious flaws. The shoulder did not sit right on me. There was way to much gaping and too much room in the bodice which lead to twisting.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-t2V5To41mBc/T34v6ygUDVI/AAAAAAAAASE/_D-62svukLk/s1600/Sorbetto.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="237" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-t2V5To41mBc/T34v6ygUDVI/AAAAAAAAASE/_D-62svukLk/s320/Sorbetto.jpg" width="320" /></a>I altered the shoulder and pressed it. Without realising I had let the pressing cloth slip and it melted my new shoulder seam completely. Well ladies I nearly cried.<br />
<br />
But I had to do a repair job which entailed redoing the bias tape on the front (and as you can see I had to do it wider to cover the old tape as the fabric ripped when I tried to unpick it). I then had to chop about an inch off the shoulders to remove the burnt material. The overall fit is not close to perfect.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-s-q6q_AQfqk/T34vOu9wF0I/AAAAAAAAAR0/I7H2QnW1tK4/s1600/IMG_9962.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-s-q6q_AQfqk/T34vOu9wF0I/AAAAAAAAAR0/I7H2QnW1tK4/s320/IMG_9962.JPG" width="170" /></a></div>

I had a bit of a slump whilst trying to do my Truffle dress as it needs so many alterations (guess you cant slim into a "commercial" body shape) but I have now moved that to my to do pile for the time being.<br />
<br />
So I decided seen as though the summer seems to be on the way here and I desperately short of tops I will make some starting with the highly acclaimed Sorbetto Top by Colette which can be downloaded <a href="http://www.coletterie.com/colette-patterns-news/free-pattern-to-download-the-sorbetto-top" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MQld4SveStU/T3dki6kBGzI/AAAAAAAAARU/232yB2egvUE/s1600/pink-full2-500x750.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MQld4SveStU/T3dki6kBGzI/AAAAAAAAARU/232yB2egvUE/s200/pink-full2-500x750.jpg" width="133" /></a></div>
Now this has been out for nearly a year and there are some really wonderful versions and great variations on the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/colettepatterns/pool/" target="_blank">Colette flickr group</a>. I thought it would be a dream to sew and a great addition to my wardrobe.<br />
<br />
Learning from the truffle dress I thought I would make up a quick muslin just to be sure of the sizing.<br />
<br />
:( :( :(:( :( :(:( :( :(:( :( :(:( :( :(:( :( :(:( :( :(:( :( :(:( :( :(:( :( :(:( :( :(:( :( :(:( :( :(:( :( :(:( :( :(<br />
<br />
Loose neck, roomy shoulders and very gaping armholes was the results of the first muslin, so I done some research, found <a href="http://assets.burdastyle.com/pdf_files/assets/000/191/731/get-rid-of-a-gaping-armhole_original.pdf?1309472711" target="_blank">this</a> and thought aha job done.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DzYu6OSf2-E/T3drknYDogI/AAAAAAAAARc/tcc8R7X9tdY/s1600/IMG_9884dpp.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="281" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DzYu6OSf2-E/T3drknYDogI/AAAAAAAAARc/tcc8R7X9tdY/s320/IMG_9884dpp.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
This is after the gaping armhole fix and I moved the dart as it was too high (and is now too low). It still gapes and I am at a loss.<br />
<br />
My bust measure 41 at the widest so as per the pattern sizing I cut a 14. I have read somewhere to cut the upper bust/chest measurement which is 39 (and typically its halfway between a 10 and 12). So I am thinking I may do that and try a split and spread FBA (if I can understand how to do it).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Ladies any help or tips would be greatly appreciated on this one. I am going to recut and have another go at a smaller size. Fingers crossed :)<br />
<br />

So I have finally made some headway on the next project in the Sew Colette challenge which is the lovely Truffle Dress.<br />
<br />
I have traced the pattern doing the same as I did for the Pastille and cut a 14 top tapering to an 18 skirt (hope I have done the grading right).<br />
<br />
I am really hoping that I wont have to do a short torso adjustment and a sway back adjustment but at least I know what I am doing this time (she says *& does a big big eye roll).<br />

I knew the stretch jersey knit (purchased for £3.95p/m from Ashley Brook Fabrics in Romford) would not be suitable for any of the Colette projects so I thought I would make the Simplicity <a href="http://sewing.patternreview.com/Patterns/38264" target="_blank">2406</a> seen as though I already had the pattern traced and cut.<br />
<br />
It needs another wash or two for the interfacing to de-bulk (my own fault as I think I used heavyweight instead of my lightweight one I used last time.<br />
<br />
Not really the best figure hugging dress for me but comfy and wearable for school runs and house days especially with the pockets sewn into the seams. :)<br />
<br />
Again excuse the picture I really do not photograph well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-39jQ1zGOzF0/T156yFTDycI/AAAAAAAAAQE/Q-ikOQQZft8/s1600/IMG_9600.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-39jQ1zGOzF0/T156yFTDycI/AAAAAAAAAQE/Q-ikOQQZft8/s400/IMG_9600.JPG" width="225" /></a></div>
I used view C on the pattern but wore this today with my own belt rather than the intended sash. I will admit I had some trouble with the sleeves, even though I used the same pattern as size as last time they just would not go right so I unpicked them and done them again :o)<br />

I finished the facing with bias tape for a smart finish and was pleased with my gathering this time round.<br />

I used bias tape again to fish the arms as was not keen on using elastic again. This gave the sleeves a really nice finish.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fugKxKPJb3A/T15zSzANy-I/AAAAAAAAAPs/m33-qvEMNrw/s1600/IMG_9642.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fugKxKPJb3A/T15zSzANy-I/AAAAAAAAAPs/m33-qvEMNrw/s640/IMG_9642.JPG" width="350" /></a></div>
It is really frustrating as what I see and what the camera can see are obviously two different things!<br />
<br />
As you can see below it is still slight roomy in the upper back but not as much as before. I will definitely be wearing this once it warms up a bit.<br />
<br />
By the way in the rear shot the dress is not wonky I obviously don't have the ability to stand straight!!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-s4kKIFCETAE/T15zUzUWg0I/AAAAAAAAAP0/MWtSWKg-JM8/s1600/IMG_9643.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-s4kKIFCETAE/T15zUzUWg0I/AAAAAAAAAP0/MWtSWKg-JM8/s320/IMG_9643.JPG" width="175" /></a></div>

Ok So I have now finally finished my Pastille Dress and it is well and truly wearable (just need to wait for some warmer weather)<br />
<br />
I am off to do the school run now but I will post a pic to twitter and Flicker later of me wearing the dress once I set my camera up and find where I put my tripod.<br />
<br />
So here is the final dress. Due to the disasters I had I have had to make a few alterations.<br />
1. I added an extra pleat to the bottom of the skirt for personal preference.<br />
2. I had to cover the neckline with a peter pan collar and I used Suzannah's <a href="http://www.adventuresindressmaking.com/2010/05/great-use-for-hankies-peter-pan-collar.html" target="_blank">tutorial</a> to do this.<br />
3. I removed the cap sleeves and converted them to basic short sleeves.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oSJA1KO6xvA/T1eh0uXG-LI/AAAAAAAAAO8/cq4Lo664lFQ/s1600/pastillebutton2JPG.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oSJA1KO6xvA/T1eh0uXG-LI/AAAAAAAAAO8/cq4Lo664lFQ/s200/pastillebutton2JPG.jpg" width="133" /></a></div>
<br />
Well I have finished the Colette Pastille Dress and although it's OK I am quite disappointed with it. Maybe I am jumping ahead of myself expecting my projects to come out perfect but for the time it took they should do!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ys0KX0hJ0b8/T1eciatKq8I/AAAAAAAAAOU/jpsC1EbNg8M/s1600/Pastille.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="299" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ys0KX0hJ0b8/T1eciatKq8I/AAAAAAAAAOU/jpsC1EbNg8M/s640/Pastille.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
From the front it looks passably fine (the second picture in was not cropped in proportion it does not look that frumpy!) however, I did adjust both the front and back for a short waist but it appears the front is shorter than the back :/ The back has a bit of surplus material in the width which confused me as the muslin was a nice fit.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kXPz3t6WnWQ/T1eeL8oODGI/AAAAAAAAAOc/cK9BjanosmQ/s1600/IMG_9530.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kXPz3t6WnWQ/T1eeL8oODGI/AAAAAAAAAOc/cK9BjanosmQ/s400/IMG_9530.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I adjusted the neckline to make it more low cut and rounded but have no idea what went wrong as it looked so nice when it was just pressed and prior to adding the interfacing. I think its safe to say me and interfacing just do not get on!<br />
<br />
To hide the dodgy neckline I have decided to add a peter pan collar after seeing Adventures In Dressmaking's <a href="http://www.adventuresindressmaking.com/2010/05/great-use-for-hankies-peter-pan-collar.html" target="_blank">tutorial here</a>. I will be making this tonight hopefully!<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-b8ZUKJiDdPc/T1egMV85cDI/AAAAAAAAAOs/lt9sI6S-kck/s1600/IMG_9534.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-b8ZUKJiDdPc/T1egMV85cDI/AAAAAAAAAOs/lt9sI6S-kck/s400/IMG_9534.JPG" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
As for the back I am finding the neck comes up to high at the back, the sleeves really do not suit me and make me look all out of proportion and I have excess fabric which I am not too sure what to do with. I am dreading taking out the zip as I sewed it on the smallest stitch and I just know the fabric will rip :(<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PDI5DJx2G9U/T1eftnZswAI/AAAAAAAAAOk/AV7L6iiiCkI/s1600/IMG_9529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PDI5DJx2G9U/T1eftnZswAI/AAAAAAAAAOk/AV7L6iiiCkI/s400/IMG_9529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The bodice (the bit I was actually concerned about) came out fine! all seams and darts lined up lovely. Excuse the light coloured marks, my iron came off the pressing cloth so the shine is reflecting the light!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JVXo316JE4U/T1ehJ1hzRQI/AAAAAAAAAO0/cNk5fKfKzF4/s1600/IMG_9528.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JVXo316JE4U/T1ehJ1hzRQI/AAAAAAAAAO0/cNk5fKfKzF4/s400/IMG_9528.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
The pleats worked out fine, I added in an extra one to bring them all the way down as I just prefer them this way.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I really want to start on the Truffle dress and catch up with the sew along but I also want to make this one perfect so I can wear it out and about. So the plan for tonight after I have designed a poster for my PTA group is to unpick the zip and remove excess fabric and the back of the neck, remove the cap sleeves and refit the shoulders and add a peter pan collar! Wonder how much I will actually get done? :(<br />
<br />

<br />
I asked her to pick some fabric she liked for her summer wardrobe and here we have her choices all priced at £2.40p/m and perfect for the hopefully hot summer.<br />

I am so behind with the sew along but I will be catching up real soon!<br />
<br />
I have spent the evening finishing off my muslin and I must say I am glad I did as I have had to make a few adjustments.<br />
<br />
I have had to take length off the front and back bodice as I obviously have a very short body myself! But I also have very small shoulders so I will have to take some bulk from the shoulders too.<br />
<br />
I have also decided lower the neckline on the final garment as high necklines do nothing for me and I have spent too much time procrastinating over pleating the fabric down to the hemline as I feel it will look much better (plus I'm such a shorty I need to loose a fair few inches off the skirt length). My pattern has been adjusted accordingly I am ready to go!!!!<br />
<br />
Roll on my little ones bed time so I can get going of the final garment tomorrow. Here is the unaltered muslin and despite my attempt to re-pad Deirdre she is still not the same as me fitting wise.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1job4lvLooU/T1Dclg9IWAI/AAAAAAAAANk/q5FRKqNfGj4/s1600/IMG_9514.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1job4lvLooU/T1Dclg9IWAI/AAAAAAAAANk/q5FRKqNfGj4/s320/IMG_9514.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I think my beginners arsenal of equipment and info is near enough complete.<br />
<br />
I know I can sometimes bog myself down with too much information but in an attempt to not be so distracted by the internet I have purchased some good old fashion books.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--om4RVW5uOs/T1Dd0NSUUeI/AAAAAAAAANs/ZWydrbbeS2s/s1600/curve.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="231" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--om4RVW5uOs/T1Dd0NSUUeI/AAAAAAAAANs/ZWydrbbeS2s/s320/curve.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I seem to do a lot of alterations on patterns and am hoping to be doing some self drafting in the near future so I was told a French Curve/ Curve Ruler/ Dressmakers Curve was an absolute must! I got this one from <a href="http://www.minervacraftsandfabrics.co.uk/" target="_blank">Minerva</a> via their <a href="http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170664150426?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_500wt_1156" target="_blank">eBay shop</a>. It has a square ruler incorporated. Slits and spacings for button holes as well as markings for seam allowances. Changing necklines and armholes will be so much easier now!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sdToQCQ2GUI/T1Df0Y0cFWI/AAAAAAAAAN0/FRVDcIqo4b0/s1600/IMG_9511.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sdToQCQ2GUI/T1Df0Y0cFWI/AAAAAAAAAN0/FRVDcIqo4b0/s320/IMG_9511.JPG" width="269" /></a></div>
This book will probably be like my bible! I have the <br />
strangest body shape and find that patterns just<br />
do not fit first time. I am so glad I got this as there<br />
is so much information here and so many alterations<br />
I doubt I will have to spend hours researching on the<br />
world wide web for a long long time :)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-evvdqNOy_r8/T1DhPdgt7hI/AAAAAAAAAN8/I0cIQlFCwPY/s1600/IMG_9513.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="313" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-evvdqNOy_r8/T1DhPdgt7hI/AAAAAAAAAN8/I0cIQlFCwPY/s320/IMG_9513.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I can imagine there are some people out there cringing at my choice of book however this encompasses everything I could foresee me using for the time being. I am self taught and again this is a bid to not get distracted when I get stuck.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I can honestly say that I never thought dressmaking would be as complicated or expensive as it has been but I am thoroughly enjoying it and now I have no excuse. So I am off to clear my table and get on with finishing my Pastille muslin.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/1995114579288287370-174610020188280188?l=ladyrazzor.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Yvette Friendshiphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07739673651236246887noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1995114579288287370.post-59940328199096352122012-02-27T23:56:00.000Z2012-02-27T23:56:16.550Z2012-02-27T23:56:16.550ZColette Sew Along: Pastille Prep<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So I have been a good girl and although I am way way way behind I have spent today tracing and cutting and preparing my muslin!<br />
<br />
I am off to bed now but will finish marking up my fabric tomorrow and hopefully start sewing the muslin tomorrow night!<br />
<br />

Well I had quite a productive weekend. I re-padded Deirdre but despite have the same measurements clothes fit her differently from me but at least its close enough.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: right;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mvqfLa8iigo/T0v2lRi2l3I/AAAAAAAAAM8/XiyFV-AMlt8/s1600/Deirdre.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="255" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mvqfLa8iigo/T0v2lRi2l3I/AAAAAAAAAM8/XiyFV-AMlt8/s320/Deirdre.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Her before and after shots, she now has a defined bust and waist. I have taken some off the hips too.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
I also made my Colette Meringue skirt smaller and repositioned the zip.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xxDZ5c_H-9k/T0v4s2mkeII/AAAAAAAAANE/tdivTZOf6jE/s1600/Meringue2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xxDZ5c_H-9k/T0v4s2mkeII/AAAAAAAAANE/tdivTZOf6jE/s320/Meringue2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Please excuse the over exposure. As you can see the zip is now nicely positioned and runs smoothly into the seam and on the whole is about a size smaller all over.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
And on a rare occasion here is me wearing it!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eJ4HoiEAEFE/T0v5M3YZ6uI/AAAAAAAAANM/hDukGqS7jos/s1600/Meringue1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eJ4HoiEAEFE/T0v5M3YZ6uI/AAAAAAAAANM/hDukGqS7jos/s320/Meringue1.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
I am one of these people that hates having my photo taken and certainly dislike looking at them afterwards!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
And there it is the weekend has gone already!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/1995114579288287370-1200290510258668180?l=ladyrazzor.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Yvette Friendshiphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07739673651236246887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1995114579288287370.post-46749055830747158992012-02-24T23:15:00.003Z2012-02-24T23:16:43.049Z2012-02-24T23:16:43.049ZColette: Meringue Finished<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ejj2K_ypv4Q/T0f9-XLpgjI/AAAAAAAAAKs/ifGgDlU-zXk/s1600/SewColetteMeringueJPG.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ejj2K_ypv4Q/T0f9-XLpgjI/AAAAAAAAAKs/ifGgDlU-zXk/s200/SewColetteMeringueJPG.jpg" width="177" /></a></div>
Well I have finally finished the Meringue skirt (behind schedule I know but I am getting there) and I have to say despite adjusting the muslin and the pattern it has still turned out a tad too big. I made a slight balls up on the zip and need to practice the scallops but once I have taken it in more at the waist it will be wearable :)<br />
<br />
I have posted my pics here, comments and tips are more than welcome.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uiCmRilL4-g/T0gQTAj35EI/AAAAAAAAALk/GWG7G_e-OnI/s1600/DPP9374.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uiCmRilL4-g/T0gQTAj35EI/AAAAAAAAALk/GWG7G_e-OnI/s320/DPP9374.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
Here we have the finished garment, not to bad to be honest for someone of my level.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FvSRxajkPzc/T0gP6z5sBkI/AAAAAAAAAK0/6rc0D7u47Mg/s1600/DPP9361.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FvSRxajkPzc/T0gP6z5sBkI/AAAAAAAAAK0/6rc0D7u47Mg/s320/DPP9361.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_bg4QzNvXgs/T0gP_pwYMQI/AAAAAAAAAK8/zTtFWFARCxk/s1600/DPP9363.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_bg4QzNvXgs/T0gP_pwYMQI/AAAAAAAAAK8/zTtFWFARCxk/s320/DPP9363.JPG" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
I had huge issues with the scallops so I followed a <a href="http://buzzybeesworld.blogspot.com/2011/06/tricks-of-trade-sculpting-perfect.html" target="_blank">tutorial</a> on perfect scallops by <a href="http://buzzybeesworld.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Pattern Scissors Cloth</a> adding interface to make the material easier to work with and voila.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I double topstitched the scallops too.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LCsFcaZt1zw/T0gQJDvoN7I/AAAAAAAAALM/TTOMAb8Qeec/s1600/DPP9369.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; display: inline !important; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LCsFcaZt1zw/T0gQJDvoN7I/AAAAAAAAALM/TTOMAb8Qeec/s320/DPP9369.JPG" width="213" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
As you can see I made a complete mess of this, the zip was place too low, the seam did not quite meet with the zip and I accidently managed to put the seam ripper through the material when unstitching the zip the first time round!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4dYEI0HNUcQ/T0gXA5z4v_I/AAAAAAAAAL0/dxqPI_TORQs/s1600/DPP9372.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4dYEI0HNUcQ/T0gXA5z4v_I/AAAAAAAAAL0/dxqPI_TORQs/s320/DPP9372.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Despite precise marking, checking and pinning of the darts one of them runs off slightly to the side but this is not too much of a problem and doesn't notice too much.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-u_UVkVy98eQ/T0gX1p_ycoI/AAAAAAAAAMM/YXJXK_v5m5s/s1600/DPP9371.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-u_UVkVy98eQ/T0gX1p_ycoI/AAAAAAAAAMM/YXJXK_v5m5s/s320/DPP9371.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The back darts came out fine!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yCaipPI0SQg/T0gX_yI2VtI/AAAAAAAAAMU/66chEXhpvww/s1600/DPP9367.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yCaipPI0SQg/T0gX_yI2VtI/AAAAAAAAAMU/66chEXhpvww/s320/DPP9367.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
Once I have reduced the waist in size I will post a picture of me actually wearing the skirt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
Now onto the next project and I'd best knuckle down and get it done :)</div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/1995114579288287370-4674905583074715899?l=ladyrazzor.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Yvette Friendshiphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07739673651236246887noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1995114579288287370.post-11793184570783704672012-02-23T21:55:00.000Z2012-02-24T21:58:47.304Z2012-02-24T21:58:47.304ZColette Sew Along: Hosted by Rhinestones and TelephonesA link for anyone who is interested in following or taking part in the sew along.<br />

<br />
However my new toy has arrived:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DCR6dEhxi9g/T0LHFBy9lrI/AAAAAAAAAKM/JbA8IeRzR44/s1600/DPP9348.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="193" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DCR6dEhxi9g/T0LHFBy9lrI/AAAAAAAAAKM/JbA8IeRzR44/s320/DPP9348.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I will be honest and say as a beginner I am reluctant to purchase an overlocker (and am shocked at the price of them) so I had a look at some alternatives. There are a few 'cheap' portable overlockers but they didn't come to highly recommended but my Mum managed to find this on <a href="http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170749238041?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_1391wt_952" target="_blank">eBay</a>.<br />
<br />
I thought I would give it a go as I have material that is fraying quicker than I can make the skirt!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MuMc2GQlpDI/T0LJB8mBkuI/AAAAAAAAAKU/m2Cs1r785w0/s1600/DPP9318.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MuMc2GQlpDI/T0LJB8mBkuI/AAAAAAAAAKU/m2Cs1r785w0/s320/DPP9318.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
She was a little tricky to get on the first time and god help me when I loose my threads...very little room underneath when fully raised.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9whqesgxhKQ/T0LKAG_hE0I/AAAAAAAAAKc/vUXu5COxnXg/s1600/DPP9334.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="178" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9whqesgxhKQ/T0LKAG_hE0I/AAAAAAAAAKc/vUXu5COxnXg/s320/DPP9334.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
This is the finished result of my practice. Not bad for an attachment costing less than £20. I know they are not perfect but at least I can finish my seams with the knowledge they wont be unravelling beneath me!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YXU-lvndqvg/T0LKPXcGVRI/AAAAAAAAAKk/KfTJ3lYqn_c/s1600/DPP9337.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="177" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YXU-lvndqvg/T0LKPXcGVRI/AAAAAAAAAKk/KfTJ3lYqn_c/s320/DPP9337.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I tried a few different tensions to see what was best this is the back view I think (got them a bit mixed up as you do)!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

Well I made up a muslin for the meringue skirt and will have to make a few adjustments :( Its way to long for my 5'3 frame and possible a bit to A line compared to the picture in the book. Back to the drawing board. I am happy with the waist which is a first for me! All that needs to be altered is the length and take out some of the volume on the thighs possibly?<br />

I will adapt the pattern tomorrow, rip some seams and have another go. Quite looking forward to wearing the finished skirt already!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/1995114579288287370-8268607127546033833?l=ladyrazzor.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Yvette Friendshiphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07739673651236246887noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1995114579288287370.post-29518680949429905522012-02-14T02:07:00.000Z2012-02-15T02:10:18.827Z2012-02-15T02:10:18.827ZMeet Deirdre!!!I would like to introduce you to Deirdre<br />

Deirdre is my mum's old dress form (I wouldn't like to say how old she actually is through fear of getting a clip round the ear next time my mum visits). I have padded her out as close to my measurements as I can (although I think I need to even her up a bit!) and have made her a new cover out of some stretch jersey I picked up today.<br />
